About the Master Plan:
The Parks and Recreation Department has engaged Weston & Sampson to develop a comprehensive plan identifying current and future community needs for recreation programming, parks, greenways, and recreational facilities. The plan will provide a framework for future development or redevelopment of the parks and recreation system over the next ten years and serve as a road map for policy development concerning location, park usage, resource allocation and levels of service.
Survey Findings Presentation
The Columbia Parks & Recreation Master Plan is a strategic initiative designed to shape the future of the city’s recreational facilities, parks, and programs over the next decade. It aims to establish a more connected, accessible, and sustainable parks system that meets the evolving needs of the community. By focusing on expanding greenways, enhancing river access, improving park maintenance, and increasing safety measures, the plan addresses key community priorities. Additionally, the plan emphasizes renovating existing facilities, developing new amenities like splash pads and dog parks, and boosting community engagement through effective communication channels. This initiative not only aims to improve residents’ quality of life but also aligns with broader city goals, contributing to Columbia’s long-term vision for a vibrant and inclusive urban environment.
