Connecting Community Through Art

Congolese children learn how to pull a vase with artist Paul Moore

The Columbia Art Center’s mission is to provide the citizens of Columbia and the surrounding area with activities and events for a great arts experience by:

• Fostering and creating a customer-friendly environment that promotes, supports and advances the arts through an assortment of programs, workshops and classes.

• Offering a variety of creative events for all ages, from children to seniors, that provide all participants with quality artistic programs.

The Art Center provides several outreach programs for active duty military, veterans and their families; the homeless; and refugees.

Creative Journey

Creative Journey is an art resource program that is provided to the military and veterans. All participating artists in this program are volunteers. Members of the community as well as firms may assist with contributions to help maintain this on-going outreach to the military. For specific information, please contact Bohumila Augustinova at [email protected].

Operation Bedroll

Operation Bed Roll is a partnership between the Art Center, Sustainable Midlands and EdVenture Children’s Museum, and is designed to keep non-recyclable materials out of our landfills, engage our citizens in a community-wide maker project, and help some of our neediest residents have a safe place to sleep.

Worlds of Creativity

The Art Center has launched a new series called Worlds of Creativity in 2018.  The purpose of the monthly series is to expose guests to various cultures in the City through art and music. The Art Center celebrates a different culture with a free, family-friendly event on the first Thursday of each month. Cultures that have been explored include African American, Congolese, Hispanic and Irish.
